Learning To Read

One of the things that scared me the most about homeschooling when we first decided to home school, was how was I going to teach my girls how to read. I don't remember learning how to read, I've been reading as far back as I can remember. My husband was reading by the time he was four so he was no help either.

Reading was a big concern for Erik and I, we are both avid readers. And we honestly have more books in our small two-bedroom apartment than anything else. We have more bookcases than any of other furniture added together, and we still do not have enough shelf space to hold all our books! Our dream house consists of a large library type room filled from ceiling to floor with books.

Also, we felt that if they can master reading then they will be able to master anything else that they will want to. As long as you can read you can learn anything.

Then my mother-in-law wanting to support us in our decision, purchased the complete Deluxe Hooked On Phonics system for us. Well, we have been using it now for 1 1/2 years and let me tell you, it has worked with our girls! They are reading and loving it! Thanks Mom!
